October 17, 2013 will mark the 20 th year for Knights of Columbus, Miraculous Medal Council #11188, as a Council in the Knights of Columbus, and as a parish organization at the Church of Our Lady.  The Council has received outstanding support from the parishioners of the Church of Our Lady over this 20 year span and the Knights have assisted the parish in numerous ways under three pastors, Father Clagett, Father DeVille, and Father Coleman.  In addition, the Knights will be accepting a Star Council Award at the 11:00 AM Mass on October 13 th .  The Star Council is the highest honor awarded by the Supreme Council to Councils that meet all the Supreme Council program requirements throughout the year.  This is the third year in a row that Council #11188 has received this prestigious award.  This is in addition to the Gold and Platinum awards received from the State Council the past two years.

Upcoming KofC Events at COOL in October and November:   Candy Donations, Pumpkin Carving / Halloween Costume Contest, Veteran's Collection, and Knights Memorial Mass. All of this in addition to the upcoming Spaghetti Dinner (see separate article.) Read more on these events below (click on the read more link from the home page.)

Knights of Columbus Collection for Veterans :

The Council will be collecting items for the Veterans in the Veteran's Hospital in Chillicothe during the months of September and October. Items can be placed on the bright blue boxes located in each lobby. A list of acceptable items is posted on the boxes. Please consult that list as some items, including mouthwash containing alcohol and razor blades are not permitted.

These items will be taken to the Chillicothe Veteran's Hospital to be given to the Veterans at their Annual Christmas Party. The parish has made generous donations in the past through this program in the past as a show of support for this country's Veterans.

Candy Donations

The Knights of Columbus will be accepting donations of Halloween candy to be used for the Annual Pumpkin Carving & Halloween Costume Contest scheduled for Friday, October 25 th . Candy must be in individually wrapped portions. Loose or unpackaged candy cannot be accepted. Place the bags of candy in the baskets that will be located in each lobby of the church beginning in early October. Questions: Call Mike Jacobs at 614-271-6722.

Annual Pumpkin Carving & Halloween Costume Contest: Friday, October 25 th , from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM:

Fall is in the air and soon it will be time for The Annual Pumpkin Carving & Halloween Costume Contest sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, Council #11188. The carving will start promptly at 7:00 PM on Friday, October 25 th in Hallow Don Ross Hall. Kids, start thinking about the designs of your award winning pumpkins. Remember that the planning and gathering of materials are permitted before the day of the contest, but you must wait until October 25 th , at 7:00 PM to do any actual cutting. This includes cleaning the guts and goo from inside the pumpkin. This is the only way the contest will be fair to all the contestants. Also, remember that the pumpkin carving contest is intended as a competition between the children and that adult assistance should be kept to a minimum, depending upon the age of the child. Please bring your own pumpkin, carving tools, decorating materials and plan to take the pumpkin home afterwards (and snacks to share). Prizes will be awarded for the funniest, the scariest, the ugliest, and the most original submissions.

Although costumes are not mandatory, everyone is encouraged to wear one. Be yourself! Prizes will be awarded for the best costume in each of the following age groups: under 2, 2-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12.

Hot dogs, sloppy joes, snacks, and drinks will be served. Families are encouraged to bring snacks for the sharing pot-luck style with the food and after the carving and contest. There will be a hayride and bonfire, weather permitting, in the spooky field behind the church.

Bring the whole family for a night of frightful fun. No one will be asking you for any money, unless you want to buy a chance at winning tickets to see that scary OSU football team. The whole evening is free of charge, courtesy of the Knights of Columbus, Council 11188. Questions: Call Mike Jacobs at 614-271-6722.
