OBITUARY
Patricia Samuel
July 10, 1930 – February 26, 2025
Patricia Margaret Samuel, age 94, of Groveport, and formerly of Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 10, 1930, in Chicago, IL, to the late Louis G. and Agnes (DaCosse) Spies.
Patricia was a dedicated cashier/clerk with Rink’s/Big Bear Stores for many years, and she volunteered countless hours at the Reynoldsburg Library and Mount Carmel East Hospital.
Patricia is survived by her daughters, GeorgeAnn (Dave) Nosker and Patricia (Tim) Mann; her beloved grandchildren, Mike (Haley), Nichole (Andrew), Eric (Kaylyn), Andrea (Marco), Stacy, Allan, and Shannon; and 21 adored great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her brother-in-law, Stanley Samuel and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Strejc, as well as many nieces, nephews and cherished friends. Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Albert S. Samuel; her son, Allan Samuel; and three brothers, Edward, Louis, and Leo Spies.
A 1949 graduate of Loretta High School in Chicago, Patricia never lost her youthful spirit. Her love of living gave her boundless energy, enviable strength and contagious joy. She never missed a date with her “lunch ladies,” her group of friends who met monthly for lunch followed by an afternoon of card games (Euchre and Tripoli). Her love of games extended to board games with her grandkids, visits to the casino and racetrack and her almost daily practice of playing the Ohio Lottery.
Her greatest joy was her family. A constant and enthusiastic presence, “Grandma Pat” was never one to slow down. Whether it was helping with cleaning, cooking, laundry, or carpooling, she was always there to lend a hand. She was their biggest fan, cheering them on at their games, activities, and events. Her laughter, especially at her own expense, was a signature of her love for life.
Patricia’s love extended far beyond her family. She embraced her friends and neighbors as family, making everyone feel welcome with her trademark expression, “Love ya.” She was deeply committed to her faith, serving as a member of Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Parish, where she once contributed to the Bereavement Committee.
Family and friends may call from 4-7 pm on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Schoedinger East Funeral Home, 5360 E. Livingston Avenue, Columbus, OH 43232, where a Prayer Service will be held at 6:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, March 3, 2025, at Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, 5225 Refugee Road, Columbus, OH 43232. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Patricia’s memory to the Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Memorial Fund or Hospice of Mount Carmel, 1144 Dublin Road, Columbus, OH 43215
