Live Stream Mass

Fr Connolly

Dear Brothers and Sisters,As we enter into the new year and express well wishes to others, we once again have been confronted with the reality that seemingly has become a regular part of the state of the world in which we live. The tragedy that occurred in the early hours of this morning in New Orleans that was apparently a terrorist attack cuts to the core of our being. On a day that we should be engaging in the many traditions associated with New Year’s Day, we once again are lamenting the loss of innocent life at the hands of those filled with anger and hate.It is imperative that as individuals and communities of faith, hope, and love that we not allow ourselves to become so numb to such events that we act as if they have become the norm and we fail to rededicate ourselves to doing whatever we can to promote the value and dignity of human life.As Catholics, we respect life in all its stages. We should not reduce being pro-life to simply a political issue pertaining only to particular life stages. It is a moral issue. The decision to delay the Sugar Bowl is a proper one as a community is in grief as should be the entire Nation and World.Over the days and weeks ahead we will learn more of the details of this event and the efforts of First Responders. How often have we said or heard the words, “we will never forget”? When will we really mean it? We continually see taunting and fighting in sports contests. We see the demonization of those with whom we disagree. The influence of social media and the entertainment world thrive on violence.  On this day of resolutions, will we allow today’s event to have an influence on us for the future? As we begin 2025 and celebrate the Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, we ask her intercession. Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us. God’s blessings!Fr. Leo Connolly Pastor of Seton Parish
