St. John Paul II said, ‘The Sacred Heart has given us everything redemption, salvation, sanctification.’
The Sacred Heart is the actual heart of Christ and also indicates His love for humanity. The Catechism of the Catholic Church says, ‘The prayer of the Church venerates and honors the Heart of Jesus just as it invokes his most holy name. It adores the incarnate Word and his Heart which, out of love for men, he allowed to be pierced by our sins.’ (CCC 2669)

In the Eucharist, Jesus Himself re-presents for our benefit His Sacrifice on Calvary (Luke 22:19-20; 1 Cor. 11:26-29), gives Himself to us in Holy Communion (Exodus 16:4, 35; John 6:1-14, 48-51), and remains among us until the end of the age (Luke 24:13-35; Mt. 28:18-20). He comes to us in this humble form, making Himself vulnerable, out of love for each one of us. Yet, as God Himself, the Body and Blood of Christ deserves our utmost respect and love, as well as our adoration.St. Thomas Aquinas, Hymn ‘Tantum Ergo’

Then he took the bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is my body, which will be given for you; do this in memory of me.’ And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which will be shed for you’.

Please be sure to register if you plan to attend Mass or the picnic. More details are found on the registration link. All of the pilgrimage events will be family friendly and open to the parishes of our Diocese and visitors from around the country.
Please keep the perpetual pilgrims in your prayers for health and safety as they travel. The pilgrimage left New Haven, Connecticut on Saturday. They will arrive to our Diocese on June 23 and be with us for a full week. Check out the pictures below for some highlights of the first days of the pilgrimage!
In addition to the scheduled pilgrimage events we will be celebrating the 25th Ordination Anniversary of Fr. Roger Landry who will be leading the Seton Route of the pilgrimage at the 6:00 Mass on June 26. Come and help us celebrate his special day at Seton Parish!
The Diocese of Columbus is on the route named after St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, the first American-born saint to be canonized by the Catholic Church. A convert to Catholicism, the young mother and widow was drawn to the Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton opened the first free Catholic school for girls in America in 1810. Her work laid the foundation for what is now the parochial school system. A relic of Mother Seton from The Museum of Catholic Art and History will be on display at the pilgrimage locations.
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, pray for us!
